Conversion accuracy
Converting between document formats necessarily involves interpretation. PDF describes a fixed page; Word describes flowing text; a spreadsheet describes a grid; a presentation describes slides. Moving content between them cannot be lossless in every case. Specifically:
- PDF to Word recovers text, headings and tabular data, but not the exact typography of a designed page.
- A scanned PDF contains images of text, not text, so nothing can be extracted from it without optical character recognition.
- Legacy .doc and .xls files store their formatting in a way that is far harder to read than the modern .docx and .xlsx formats.
- Automatic background removal depends heavily on the photograph; a busy or poorly lit background will not cut out as cleanly as a plain one.
Each tool page states its own limits openly. Always check a converted file before relying on it, and always keep your original.
