    About PDF Compress

    The PDF compressor reduces the size of a PDF so it fits an upload limit or sends quickly by email, while keeping the document readable. It re-compresses the internal data streams, removes metadata and thumbnails the reader never shows, and re-encodes the photographs inside the file at a lower resolution when you ask for a smaller result. The page count, page order and text all stay exactly as they were.

    How to use it

    1. Click Select PDF file or drag your PDF onto the upload box. The original file size is shown as soon as the file is added.
    2. Choose a compression level. Medium suits most documents; pick High when there is a strict size limit, or Low when print quality matters.
    3. Press Compress PDF and watch the progress bar.

    Good to know

    • Scanned PDFs (pages that are really photographs) shrink the most - often by 70-90%.
    • A PDF that is mostly text is already small, so expect a modest saving.
    • If compression would make the file bigger, the original file is returned unchanged rather than a worse one.
    • Password protected PDFs cannot be processed. Remove the password first, then upload.

    Your files and your privacy

    Files are uploaded over an encrypted connection, stored under a random name that cannot be guessed, and processed on the server.     Frequently asked questions

    Will compressing reduce the quality of my PDF?
    Text and vector graphics stay perfectly sharp at every level because they are never re-drawn. Only photographs inside the PDF are re-encoded, and only on the Medium and High settings. Choose Low compression if you want images untouched.
    How much smaller will my file get?
    It depends entirely on what is inside. Image-heavy and scanned documents commonly drop by 60-90%. A text-only PDF that was already optimised may only save a few percent - the exact figure is shown to you after processing.
    Is there a file size limit?
    Yes, the limit for this tool is shown in the table above and in the upload box. If your file is larger, try splitting it or removing pages you do not need first.
    Do you keep a copy of my PDF?
    No. Your upload and the compressed result are both deleted from the server automatically a short time after processing, and they are never shared or indexed.
    Can I compress a password protected PDF?
    Not directly. An encrypted PDF cannot be read without its password, so the tool stops with a clear message. Open the file in your PDF reader, save a copy without the password, and upload that copy.
