What happens, step by step
- You select a file. It is sent to our server over your browser's encrypted connection.
- The file is checked. We verify its real type by reading the first bytes of the file, not by trusting its name, and we reject anything that is not the format the tool accepts.
- The file is renamed. It is written to disk under a random 32-character identifier. Your original filename is only used to label the download you receive.
- The file is processed. The conversion runs entirely on our server unless the tool page explicitly tells you that an external service is used.
- You download the result. The download link works only for your own browser session; a link copied to another device or another person will be refused.
- Everything is deleted. The upload, every intermediate file and the finished result are removed after 30 minutes - automatically, whether or not you downloaded anything.
How the deletion actually happens
Each job gets its own folder. A cleanup routine runs whenever a new file is uploaded, and can also be run on a schedule by the server, removing every job folder older than the retention window. Deletion is not something anyone has to remember to do - it is part of how the software works.
Why the folder cannot be abused
- The storage directories deny direct web access entirely.
- Script execution is switched off inside them, so an uploaded file can never be run as code.
- Directory listing is disabled, so the contents cannot be enumerated.
- File names are cryptographically random, so they cannot be guessed.
- Paths are always rebuilt from a validated identifier, never from anything you type, which makes directory traversal structurally impossible.
What we do not do
- We do not open, read or index the contents of your documents.
- We do not keep backups of your uploads.
- We do not share your files with advertisers or any other third party.
- We do not use your files to train machine learning models.
Can I delete my file sooner?
Yes - close the tool page or press Start over. In practice the file is already unreachable to anyone but you and disappears within the retention window regardless.
My download link stopped working
That is the policy doing its job. Once the retention window passes, the file is gone and cannot be recovered by us or by anyone else. Simply upload the file and process it again.
A note on truly sensitive documents
No online service is the right place for material that must never leave your control - certain legal, medical or financial documents, for example. If a document is that sensitive, use offline software. We would rather say so plainly than pretend otherwise.
