    About Image Compress

Compress JPG, JPEG, PNG and WEBP images to a smaller file size for websites, email attachments and online forms that reject large uploads. You control the quality, you see the original and the compressed image side by side, and you are told exactly how many kilobytes were saved before you download anything.

    How to use it

    1. Select an image or drag it onto the upload box.
    2. Move the quality slider. Higher keeps more detail, lower makes a smaller file.
    3. Optionally choose a different output format, or reduce the pixel dimensions.
    4. Press Compress image, compare the before and after previews, then download.

    A typical result

A 12-megapixel photo straight from a phone camera usually looks like this:

Your own numbers are shown after processing, so you always know what you are downloading.

    Good to know

    • Quality 80-95 is best when the image will be printed or edited further.
    • Quality 60-75 is the sweet spot for websites and email - big savings, no obvious change.
    • Below 50 the compression starts to become visible on photographs.
    • PNG transparency is preserved when the output format is PNG or WEBP. Converting a transparent image to JPG places it on a white background, because JPG has no transparency.

    Your files and your privacy

Files are uploaded over an encrypted connection, stored under a random name that cannot be guessed, and processed on the server. Nothing is shared with anyone, nothing is indexed, and every uploaded and generated file is deleted automatically after 30 minutes. You can read the full file deletion policy and our privacy policy.

    Frequently asked questions

Which quality setting should I use?
Start at 70. If the preview still looks perfect and you need a smaller file, try 55. If you can see softness or blocks around edges, go back up to 80.
Does compressing change the dimensions of my image?
No, not unless you choose a size in the resize box. By default the pixel width and height stay exactly the same and only the encoding quality changes.
Should I convert my photos to WEBP?
For websites, yes - WEBP is typically 25-35% smaller than JPG at the same quality and every current browser supports it. For sharing with other people, JPG remains the safest choice.
Why did my PNG barely get smaller?
PNG is a lossless format, so there is much less to remove. Lowering the quality below 60 reduces the number of colours, which does shrink the file - or convert the image to JPG or WEBP if it does not need transparency.
Is my image uploaded to a third party?
No. Compression happens on this server and both files are deleted automatically a short while afterwards.
